Looking to the Future
WE PUBLISHED the first issue of FORZA 30 years ago, and it was greeted by enthusiasts eager for a magazine focused on the best sports cars in the world.
Many of you have been with us from that first issue, and our high renewal rate indicates you’re still enjoying FORZA. While the print-magazine industry has experienced a long, steady decline, and a multitude of other automotive magazines have shut down, we’re still going strong.
That said, we need to plan for the future. The economy has experienced a great deal of upheaval in the years since the COVID pandemic, and we’re burdened with significant cost increases and no indication they will decline in the foreseeable future. Printing costs are up 27%, paper is up 45-50%, and our largest expense, postage and mailing charges, is
up a whopping 52% with another 9% increase in the proposal stage. While we’ve been able to offset some of these increases on our end—by consolidating offices, forgoing raises, and making other changes—we still need to plan now to protect the
long-term future of FORZA.
With that in mind, we’re requesting your agreement to an increase in the subscription price. The proposed increase is $5.00 per year for subscribers in the U.S. and slightly higher increases for Canadian and other foreign subscribers. That’s an increase of only 42 cents per month and compares favorably to the current newsstand price per copy of $8.99 (U.S.) and $9.99 (Canada).
Many other magazines have already instituted larger increases, either by raising the subscription price or delivering fewer copies for the same price, without any advance notice to subscribers. We don’t think it’s fair to raise the price without bringing it to your attention and explaining why the increase is needed. We welcome your thoughts, both pro and con, at forza@rossperiodicals.com.
Assuming this proposal meets with general acceptance, the increase will take effect September 2. Until then, you can renew or extend your subscription at the current price. For those of you in a current renewal stage, you can send us your renewal form with payment or renew online.
