    The Ferrari 512 BBi was unveiled in 1981 to serve as a quicker and more efficient sibling to the 512 BB. It had 340hp with its fuel-injected engine and a top speed of 170mph for all-day driving on the autostradas and autobahns on the European continent. It was a more civilized car than its predecessors but maintained the raw speed of the Ferrari 12-cylinder engine of the 70s and 80s. Plus, the engine was now mid-mounted, adding to the balance and overall performance of the car. However, Enzo Ferrari believed that this V12 was too powerful for America’s 55mph national speed limit in the 1980s. Out of all the 512 BBs and BBis that were built between 1976-1984, roughly 2000, none of them were officially imported to the United States.

    The Ferrari 512 BBi also marked the end of an era for the manufacturer, they are the last models built entirely in the classic old-Italian fashion, completely by hand. Often overshadowed by the next in line, the 512 TestaRossa, the 512BB holds a special place in Ferrari’s history. Who can ask for more than a hand-built V12 that is too fast for American roads?

    This particular Ferrari 512BBi is in the classic Ferrari Rosso Corsa with a beige interior. Its last timing belt service was performed at our authorized Ferrari dealer in September 2015.
